Parents of LGBTQ+ teens often struggle to deal with the change, shock, fears, confusion and possible loss associated with their child coming out or transitioning. It is essential for parents to handle the child's transition in a way that is affirming for their child. The goal is to protect the relationship with your child at this time and cause the least amount of damage for the health of the parent/child relationship in the future. The feelings around this process for the parents should not be shared with their child and instead with a professional and/or a group of parents who are experiencing a similar process.
