We understand this may be a very frightening time for families as they consider inpatient treatment for their adolescent. Our Certified Adolescent Interventionists begin by meeting with your family to discuss the young adult’s history, issues and resistance to getting the care required for recovery. Our therapists then meet with the young adult to gain a greater understanding of the issues and his or her openness to treatment. If necessary, we may conduct an intervention either in our office or the family’s home. It often helps to bring the entire family together for one or more sessions.
Following these initial steps, we may assign an independent rehab specialist if we deem necessary. Through our relationships with other mental health care providers, we can often expedite the admissions process. We collaborate with families and other mental health providers and can monitor the young adult’s progress while in the facility to assess his or her readiness for discharge.
While the adolescent is nearing the end of their inpatient stay, our after-care specialists create a plan for the return home in collaboration with the patient and the family. That includes ongoing consultation as needed with the client’s treatment team, which may include a therapist, family therapist, family doctors, psychiatrist, recovery coaches and other healing modalities if needed or desired.
