Ariel provides a safe and comfortable environment for your adolescent or young adult to open up and feel safe sharing the uncomfortable feelings they are experiencing in daily life. Ariel is engaged and personable in her work with clients. She utilizes a combination of DBT, CBT, and talk therapy . Ariel helps clients who have a difficult time expressing their feelings and who oftentimes don't know what they are feeling.
When Ariel works with anxious teens or young adults she helps them come to grips with the anxiety and the effects of the anxiety which are oftentimes not wanting to feel anger at anyone and being fearful that teachers, coaches, friends or their parents are angry at them. Ariel addresses the people pleasing that can be present for anxious kids in the hopes that making everyone happy will avoid anyone being angry at them. She helps her anxious kids understand that they are able to take up space, lean on their family and friends, and that they don't have to feel guilty about everything and constantly apologize.
When Ariel works with kids who have been diagnosed with ADHD she not only is in a therapist role, she is also in a coaching role to help her clients understand the chaos that ensures in their daily lives with the lack of schedules for sleep, morning routine, being on time for school, a balanced diet, organizing their school work, and their bedtime routine. There are often self-esteem issues and shame after years of untreated ADHD and anger and blame may be present toward parents in order to cover up the shame of many years of feeling that they have failed at many things they are attempted to accomplish.
When Ariel is working with kids who use substances such as pot or alchohol to deal with feelings she dives in to help them uncover what feeling they are attempting to numb with use of substances. The more awareness and understanding they uncover the closer they become to feeling the feelings and not acting on them. There are instances where there is undiagnosed anxiety or ADHD present and teens are using substances to self medicate for those mental health issues.
When Ariel is working with kids with Oppositional Defiant Disorder who are angry at the world and acting out she helps them express that anger in a productive way by communicating feelings instead of using the anger as a defense. Undiagnosed and untreated anxiety or ADHD may be the some or most of the reasons these kids are reading at their parents, families and others. This may be a way to deal with the vulnerability, fear, and out of control feelings kids may have who are struggling with ADHD and anxiety without therapy or medication.

Cindy is an experienced therapist and who comes alongside and offers support and perspective to her clients while they process through changes and difficult seasons of life. She believes no one should have to navigate the challenges of life alone. Her approach is eclectic, pulling from a variety of therapy modalities to meet the individual needs of the client. She enjoys working with people struggling with mental health issues such as anxiety, ADHD, and depression as well as people looking for healing from trauma or processing grief. She works with the client as they navigate difficult seasons such as a relationship ending, family stress, loss of job, injury, move, or one of the many other curve-balls life can throw at you. She is empathetic and will not pass judgement but rather will discuss what is getting in the way of your progress or peace.
Cindy also has a special interest in student athletes who have suffered concussions or other season-ending injuries. This type of life event can really have a negative impact on a young person as they struggle to find their way through recovery. So much of their confidence and identity can be wrapped up in their participation in sports. They also may lose social connections and feel isolated during this time. The emotional impact can lead to more serious mental health struggles such as depression, anxiety and substance use. Cindy is able to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) skills with clients to regulate negative feelings. Together, Cindy and her client can explore the issues that resulted from the concussion and create a plan for tending to all the emotional and mental needs that arise.
Prior to being an LPC, Cindy was a High School Counselor and Softball Coach. She carries that youthful spirit into all her client sessions believing that at any age you have the potential to explore your inner self and grow, change, and find healing.
Shannon shares her time between working in the school system as a Certified School Counselor and as a therapist at Welsh Therapy. Shannon works with children, teens, college students, young adults and adults.
Shannon works with adolescents and young adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, depersonalization, ADHD, self-harm, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, family conflict, substance abuse, and anger management. Shannon's approach is personable and direct. She's excellent with kids and has a relaxed and personable therapeutic approach.
Shannon utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach in her work. She empowers her clients by teaching them coping skills they can use daily outside the session. Shannon's approach to therapy is also strengths-based, as she works with her clients to find their inner strength and resources that help them handle daily life. Shannon's clients begin to use CBT skills to regulate their emotions when they feel triggered and immobilized by an emotion. Shannon also employs a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) approach to help clients balance acceptance and change, especially for clients that experience their emotions intensely.
Shannon is part of our Parent Support Team at Welsh Therapy. Families that benefit from family therapy are first given a parent support therapist to prepare them for family therapy. Shannon will work with parents to help them be a deeper container for their child's emotions and build a bridge for the parent-child relationship to flourish into more profound understanding and mutual respect.
In addition, Shannon, a certified school counselor, has experience working with clients who have ADHD, learning disabilities, executive functioning issues, and other mental health symptoms that interfere with their performance at school or contribute to school avoidance.
In these cases, Shannon does the following.
- Shannon can be an advocate for students who require accommodations.
-Shannon works closely with Dr Katie Bascom, who performs all the psychological testing for our Welsh Therapy and PS Psychiatry practices.
-Shannon will go to their student portal, create a weekly study schedule, and sit beside them while the work is being done. Shannon helps them get organized and feel less overwhelmed
